CASE FILE · INSTAGRAM GROWTH
Short version: SocialMonk offers personal Instagram managers from $39 a month and promises no bots. Yet the 5,000-plus followers our test account gained behaved like bots: engagement fell to 0.8%, and 562 disappeared within two weeks. For a similar price with real results, see our Flock Social review.
SocialMonk is a managed Instagram growth service with a multilingual site and plans billed weekly or monthly. It promises a personal Instagram manager for every customer and markets itself firmly against bots.
It's one of the cheapest managed options among the Instagram growth tools we compare, which is exactly why its test results deserve a close look.
SocialMonk describes itself as the opposite of an Instagram bot: a personal manager interacts with your target group by hand, and those people notice you and follow back. Plans differ mainly in the follower ceiling they advertise and how strongly they push growth.
Choose Starter, Standard or Business, billed weekly or monthly.
After signing up you set your preferences and targeting for the account in the customer portal.
Target by hashtag, location, followers or followings of other accounts, and filter by language and gender.
From your account, the assigned manager works through that group with follows, likes and story views.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in the portal or in writing.
SocialMonk is one of the cheaper managed services, with plans from $39 a month and a promise of personal Instagram managers doing everything by hand. That low price is the main draw. The followers it delivered were the main problem.
A personal manager for $39 a month sounds like a bargain. Most people searching for SocialMonk want hands-off growth without the risk they associate with bots.
The targeting options are reasonable too, with hashtags, locations, followers of other accounts, and language and gender filters available on every plan.
But a cheaper service only saves money if the followers are worth having. When thousands arrive and engagement falls by more than two-thirds, the account ends up worse off. Our guide to growing followers properly shows what genuine growth looks like.
A pricier service from this round showed the same pattern. Our Organics Growth review found thousands of followers with similarly flat engagement.
Our test of Social Buddy showed a similar slump in engagement after the follower count jumped.
For our September-October 2026 test, SocialMonk managed a profile that opened with 1,212 followers and kept to its normal posting pattern for all 30 days.
Our tracking relied on Instagram Insights for followers, engagement rate and reach over 30 days. Fourteen days after the subscription ended we looked again and recorded how many of the gained followers had dropped away.
| Metric | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Followers | 1,212 | 6,235 |
| Engagement rate | 2.9% | 0.8% |
| Accounts reached (30 days) | 5,171 | 5,393 |
| Followers lost after we stopped (14 days) | – | 562 |
At $39 to $79 a month, SocialMonk is cheaper than most managed services, and weekly billing lets you keep commitments short.
Language and gender filters are included on every plan rather than kept for the top tier.
We went from 1,212 to 6,235 followers in a month, but engagement dropped from 2.9% to 0.8% and reach hardly changed. Within two weeks of cancelling, 562 followers were gone, close to one in nine of those gained. What arrived was a bot audience.
SocialMonk's FAQ says your new followers won't disappear after you cancel. We lost 562 of them in the fortnight after stopping.
The site shows an average of 4.8 out of 5 from more than 22,500 satisfied customers. On Trustpilot, SocialMonk scored 1.6 from 200 reviews when we checked, and a recent reviewer described receiving Instagram warnings about suspicious behaviour.
The homepage says manual work means your account is never in danger of being blocked. No service can promise that, and our results suggest the activity wasn't the careful, human kind it describes.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $39/month | Up to 1,000 followers a month, profile and hashtag targeting, story views, language and gender filters |
| Standard | $59/month | Up to 2,000 followers a month, same features as Starter |
| Business | $79/month | Up to 3,000 followers a month, triple growth push |
Monthly prices are shown above. Annual billing is heavily discounted, and weekly subscriptions are also available. All plans renew automatically for the same period until you cancel.
The follower numbers are SocialMonk's own ceilings ("up to"), not guarantees.

SocialMonk's managers act on your account every day, and it claims manual work means you'll never be blocked. Reviews on Trustpilot tell a different story, including a recent one describing warnings from Instagram about suspicious activity.
Whoever does the clicking, your profile is the one at risk. It's worth knowing what official Instagram terms allow before you sign up.
Protect the account first: switch on Instagram's verification codes and change your password if you stop using the service.

SocialMonk's low price hides a poor result: the followers it delivered acted like bots, engagement fell to 0.8% and hundreds vanished soon after we cancelled, despite its promise that they wouldn't. Its self-reported 4.8 rating also sits far above its public Trustpilot score. You'll get more from one of the better growth services on our list.
Cheap, but it delivered bot followers that quickly disappeared. Flock Social costs about the same and works.
1/5SocialMonk says no bots or automated programs are involved and that personal managers do the work. Yet the 5,023 followers we gained barely engaged, reach stayed flat and 562 left within two weeks of cancelling, which is how bot followers behave.
A managed Instagram growth service that pairs you with a personal manager who engages your target group by following accounts, liking posts and watching stories, by hashtag, location or followers of other accounts.
Starter is $39 a month for up to 1,000 followers, Standard $59 for up to 2,000 and Business $79 for up to 3,000, on monthly billing. Weekly plans are also offered.
Its FAQ says they won't, but we lost 562 within 14 days of cancelling.
Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period. You can cancel in the customer portal at any time, and the terms also accept cancellation by letter or email.
Flock Social costs about the same, starting at $39 a month, and the followers it brought us kept engaging and stayed put.
