Kicksta review: we used it for 30 days

Our score: 5/5

Short version: Kicksta grew our test account by real, active followers at a slow and steady pace. It suits creators and small brands who can wait a few weeks for results. Skip it if you want hundreds of followers overnight, or compare these Kicksta alternatives first.

What is Kicksta?

Kicksta helps you get Instagram followers. You give this Instagram growth service a list of accounts and hashtags that your ideal followers already engage with, and it interacts with those people on your behalf so they discover your profile.

Kicksta is an Instagram growth service, not a follower shop. It does not sell followers or use fake accounts. Everyone who follows you through Kicksta is a real person who chose to follow. It has been around since 2017.

How Kicksta works

Kicksta does not post for you or buy followers. It works by showing your profile to people who already enjoy content similar to yours, so they find you and decide for themselves whether to follow.

Step 1: You pick your targets

You add accounts and hashtags your ideal followers already engage with. For our coffee page we chose ten other coffee creators and gear brands.

Step 2: Kicksta finds their audience

It looks at the people who follow and engage with those targets, and filters out accounts that look fake, inactive or spammy.

Step 3: It likes their posts for you

Kicksta likes a few posts from each of those people from your account, at a human pace spread across the day. They get a notification with your name.

Step 4: They check you out and follow

Some of them tap through to your profile. If they like what they see, they follow. Nobody is forced or paid to follow you.

Step 5: You track it in the dashboard

The dashboard shows daily interactions, new followers and which targets bring the best results, so you can swap out weak targets each week.

Who is Kicksta best for?

Kicksta works best when there is already something worth following. It brings people to your profile, but your posts are what make them stay.

It also suits people who like to stay in control. You choose every target yourself and can swap them each week based on what the dashboard shows, so the audience you build reflects your own choices rather than a black box.

A good fit if you

  • Post at least two or three times a week
  • Have a clear niche, like coffee, fitness or local business
  • Want real followers who might buy from you or engage
  • Can give it four weeks or more to show results

Skip it if you

  • Want thousands of followers in a few days
  • Post rarely or have an empty profile
  • Are not comfortable sharing your Instagram login
  • Run a brand-new account with fewer than ten posts

Why use Kicksta at all?

Growing on Instagram by hand takes hours a day of finding the right people and engaging with them. Kicksta does the finding and liking part for you, which frees up time to make better posts.

Buying followers is faster, but those accounts never engage and Instagram removes them. In our test, Kicksta brought in followers who liked and commented on our posts, which pushed our engagement rate from 4.1% to 5.5%.

If you would rather spend the money on ads, you can. But ads stop working the day you stop paying, while the followers we gained with Kicksta mostly stayed.

Those followers also suit how Instagram now decides who sees your posts. Reach depends heavily on how people react, so a smaller audience that likes, comments and saves usually does more for you than a large one that scrolls past. Over our month, accounts reached climbed from 7,613 to 12,611, even though the follower count rose more modestly.

How we tested it

We ran Kicksta on a real Instagram account for 30 days on the Growth plan, which we paid for ourselves. The account is a home coffee brewing page with about 1,900 followers that posts three times a week.

We set ten target accounts (other coffee creators and gear brands) and kept posting at our normal pace, so the only change was Kicksta. We tracked followers, reach and engagement every day in Instagram Insights.

What we liked

The new followers were real people

We checked 100 of the new followers by hand. 94 had profile photos, posts of their own and a normal follower ratio, and most of them were interested in coffee.

Growth held up after we stopped

Two weeks after cancelling we had lost only 6 of the 248 new followers. Fake followers usually drop off far faster than that.

Setup takes ten minutes

You add your targets, connect your account and you are done. The dashboard shows what Kicksta did each day, so nothing happens out of sight.

What we didn't like

Results are slow in the first week

Growth builds slowly while Kicksta learns which accounts respond, and our first week was the quietest of the month. Give it a few weeks before you judge it.

It costs more than some rivals

At $69 a month on monthly billing, Kicksta costs more than some rivals, and the Growth plan is limited to 10 sources. You need Advanced ($129 a month) for 30.

What we liked

  • Pro: Most engaged followers in our test
  • Pro: 98% still following two weeks later
  • Pro: Ten-minute setup

What we didn't like

  • Con: Growth starts slower in week one
  • Con: Advanced plan needed for 30 sources

Is Kicksta safe?

Kicksta logs in to your account to interact on your behalf, so you share your Instagram login with it. It supports two-factor authentication, and we got no warnings or action blocks from Instagram during the 30 days.

Instagram's own rules do not allow automated activity, so any service like this carries some risk. Kicksta keeps its activity at a human pace, which lowers that risk but does not remove it.

Before you connect any growth service, turn on Instagram two-factor authentication and make sure you can still get into the email address linked to your account.

Kicksta review: our verdict

Kicksta did what it promised. It brought in real, relevant followers without bots or fake accounts, and most of them stayed after we stopped. It is not fast and it is not cheap, but if you post good content and can give it a month, it is one of the safest Instagram growth services we know.
