Cookie policy

This page explains which cookies we use and why in plain words.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Similar technology, called local storage, lets a site remember a setting on your device. This page explains what platypusreviews.com uses and why.

Our reviews, hubs and guides

Our new pages, including every tool review, our category hubs, top lists and guides, set no cookies and load no analytics or advertising scripts.

The only thing they store is your light or dark mode choice, saved in your browser's local storage under the name platypus-theme-v2. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and you can clear it by clearing your browser's site data.

Older articles

Some older articles still run on our previous system. Those pages load Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager, which can set the cookies _ga and _ga_<ID> to tell visits apart and count page views. These cookies last up to two years. Google processes this data on our behalf, and we use it only to see which pages people read.

The previous system may also set short-lived technical cookies needed for the page to work, for example to keep the site secure.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking analytics cookies doesn't stop any part of the site from working. Google also offers a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics on every site.

If you have questions about cookies, send us a message through our contact page.

Updates to this policy

When we add or remove cookies, we'll update this page and the date at the top. As we move more articles to our new pages, fewer pages will load analytics.
