Privacy policy

This page explains how we handle your data in plain words.

Who we are

Platypus Reviews ("we", "us") runs platypusreviews.com, a website that tests online tools and publishes reviews. This policy explains what personal data we handle when you use the site, why, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

Messages you send us. If you use our contact form or suggest a tool, we receive the details you enter, such as your name, email address and message. We use them only to read and answer your message or to consider your suggestion.

Visit statistics on older pages. Some older articles on our site still run on our previous system and load Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager. Google Analytics counts visits and pages viewed using cookies and your IP address, which Google processes on our behalf. Our new pages, including our reviews, hubs and guides, do not load any analytics or advertising scripts.

Server logs. Like every website, our hosting provider keeps technical logs, such as IP addresses, browser type and the pages requested, to keep the site secure and working. These logs are kept for a limited time and are not used to identify you.

Your display setting. If you switch between light and dark mode, your choice is saved in your own browser so the site remembers it. It is never sent to us.

Why we use it

We use your data to answer messages, review tool suggestions, understand which pages are useful, and keep the site secure. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on your consent (for analytics cookies), on our legitimate interest in running and securing the site (for server logs), and on taking steps at your request (for answering messages).

Who we share it with

We only share data with services that help us run the site: our hosting provider, the email service that delivers form messages to us, and Google for the analytics on older pages. Each of them may only use the data to provide their service to us.

We keep messages only as long as we need them to deal with your request, and delete them after that unless we need to keep them for legal reasons.

Your rights

You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. To do so, send us a message through our contact page and we'll reply within 2 working days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Our cookie policy explains which cookies the site uses.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. This policy is our plain-language summary of how the site works today.
