TOP LIST · INSTAGRAM GROWTH
Running a shop, salon or studio leaves little time for Instagram. This list is for small business owners who want relevant, often local followers who might become customers, without paying agency fees. We ran 65 services on real accounts for 30 days and judged them on cost, time saved, local reach and help from a real person. Kicksta leads, with Upleap close behind for local businesses.

Best for: Creators and small brands who want real growth
For a business, a follower only counts if they might buy. Kicksta brought in the most engaged audience of any service we ran, with engagement up from 4.1% to 5.5%, and it costs less per month than a single afternoon of agency time.
Kicksta suits businesses with a clear audience: a bakery whose customers follow local food accounts, or a yoga studio whose clients follow wellness creators. You point it at those accounts and it gets your profile in front of the people behind them. When we had questions, support answered in about an hour, the fastest of the five. Our Kicksta review page covers setup and pricing.
You list accounts and hashtags your customers already follow, such as other local businesses, community pages or niche hashtags. Kicksta likes a few posts from the real people behind them, they see your business name, and the curious ones visit your profile. Your bio and pinned posts then do the selling.
Shops, studios and service businesses with a recognisable niche that want customers, not just a bigger number.
Price from $69/month
Best for: First-timers and local businesses
Upleap is the best fit for businesses that serve one area. You can target specific locations, and an account manager helps choose the right local hashtags and accounts. It added 448 followers in 30 days, and our reach roughly doubled.
Most small business owners don't have time to learn how Instagram targeting works, and Upleap doesn't expect them to. Your account manager asks about your customers and where they are, sets up hashtags, lookalike accounts and locations, and adjusts the plan as results come in. For a café, salon or gym, that local focus matters more than raw follower numbers. Upleap's account managers are explained in our review.
You start a seven-day free trial and tell your manager about your business. Upleap warms the account up for roughly three days, then starts engaging with real people in the audience you chose. Note that the $39 Basic plan leaves out targeting, so most businesses should start on Standard at $69.
Cafés, salons, gyms and other local businesses that want followers from their own town and a real person to ask.
Price from $39/month
Best for: Creators and small businesses on a budget
Flock Social gives a business owner who likes to stay in control the full set of targeting tools, including locations, from $69 a month. Of the 523 followers it brought in, 99% hadn't left a fortnight after we stopped.
Flock Social is the most affordable way to run your own targeting. You can aim at the followers of nearby businesses, local hashtags and locations, and filter out accounts you don't want to reach, such as competitors. Live support is available around the clock if you get stuck. See our Flock Social review for the full plan details.
Once your targets are in, Flock Social spends a few days warming the account up. After that it follows matching people, likes their posts if they follow back and eventually drops the silent ones. You can swap targets any time, for example around a seasonal promotion.
Owner-run businesses that are comfortable with a dashboard and want the lowest price for full targeting.
Price from $39/month
Best for: Busy people who want growth on autopilot
Kenji asks the least of a busy owner. Give it a few example accounts and its AI does the targeting from there. It grew our smallest account by 220 followers over the month, lifting engagement from 4.2% to 5.3%.
If Instagram is the last thing on your to-do list, Kenji is built for you. There are no target lists to maintain: its AI learns from a handful of examples, such as a competitor you admire and a few local hashtags, and keeps improving its choices on its own. A keyword filter keeps it away from spam and inappropriate accounts. More detail is in our Kenji review.
You connect your account and add your examples. Kenji warms your account up over two to four days, then follows and unfollows in batches, whitelisting anyone who engages with you. According to Kenji, most customers start to grow within two weeks.
Busy owners and new businesses that want growth running in the background without weekly check-ins.

Best for: Brands and creators who want managed growth
Nitreo brought in the most new followers of the five, 679 in 30 days, and almost doubled the number of accounts we reached. Its success team is on hand when you're not sure who to target.
Nitreo is a good choice for a business that sells beyond its own street, such as an online shop or a brand shipping nationwide, and wants the widest relevant audience. It mixes follows, likes and story views, so people notice you in several ways, and it mutes the accounts it follows so your business feed stays tidy. Our full Nitreo review covers the plans.
You tell Nitreo what kind of business you run, add hashtags and accounts similar to yours, and set filters. It engages with real, active users, and the success team or its hashtag generator suggests new targets when results level off.
Online shops and brands that want as many relevant new followers as possible and like having a team to help.

We also looked at these. Here is why they are not on the list.
Jumper Media is now mainly a local marketing agency that still sells Instagram management for $1,500 a month.
Why it didn't make the list
At that price, a small business should expect real customers. Instead, the plan filled our test account with bot-like followers: upwards of 10,800 new followers, engagement dropping from 2.4% to 0.8%, and 322 gone within a fortnight of stopping. Cancelling also needs 30 days' notice.
Who might still like it: We wouldn't recommend it. Upleap gives you a real account manager for a fraction of the cost.

Read our Jumper Media reviewSocialStud offers a human growth manager who engages from your account by hand, from $129 a month.
Why it didn't make the list
Its followers acted like bots: more than 5,000 turned up, engagement slid from 2.9% to 0.7%, and 549 left within two weeks of stopping. Its site advertises a 4.7 Trustpilot rating, but the score we found was 2.3.
Who might still like it: Not recommended for a business budget. Upleap and Nitreo both include human help for less.

Read our SocialStud reviewFor a business, Instagram followers are only valuable if some of them visit, book, call or buy. That changes how you should judge a growth service. Ten local followers who engage are worth more than a thousand strangers from the other side of the world.
That's why we ranked these services on engagement and retention, not only on follower totals. The services that bring in real people interested in your niche are the ones that send customers through your door.
| What to check | Where to find it | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Profile visits | Instagram Insights | Whether people are curious about your business |
| Website or link taps | Instagram Insights | Whether they want to buy or book |
| Direct messages | Your inbox | Questions that often turn into sales |
| Engagement rate | Insights or your growth dashboard | Whether new followers care about your posts |
If your customers live nearby, aim every part of your targeting at your area.
Each Instagram post can carry at most 5 hashtags, so choose local and niche tags that describe your business rather than broad, popular ones.

A growth service is one of several ways a small business can grow on Instagram. This is how they compare on cost and time.
| Option | Typical monthly cost | Your time | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Doing it all yourself | Free | Time every day | Hard to keep up when you're busy |
| Growth service (this list) | $39–$129 | A few minutes a week | Results build over weeks |
| Social media agency | Hundreds to thousands | Meetings and approvals | Expensive for a small business |
| Paid Instagram ads | Whatever you spend | Setup and monitoring | Stops the day you stop paying |
If cost is the deciding factor, our ranking of the cheapest real-growth services compares what you get at each price.
If your customers are nearby, choose a service with location targeting, or one that lets you target other local accounts and town hashtags.
Kenji needs almost none of it. Kicksta and Flock Social need a few minutes a week to review targets. Upleap and Nitreo put a person on your side.
Most plans start at $39, but targeting usually starts at $69. Kicksta includes targeting in its entry plan at $69.
If you're new to Instagram, an account manager or success team is worth more than extra features.
Use a business or creator account so you can track profile visits, link taps and messages alongside follower growth.
Say what you sell, where you are and how to buy or book in one or two lines, and add a link. Every new visitor a service sends you reads this first.
Pin three posts that show your work, a happy customer and your location or opening hours.
New followers often ask about prices or availability by DM. A fast, friendly reply is where many sales happen, and no tool should do it for you.
Behind-the-scenes Reels, new products and before-and-after posts give new followers a reason to stay. Our step-by-step growth guide has a simple weekly routine.
Before connecting any service to your business account, turn on two-factor sign-in security and make sure the business email is one you can always access.
We paid for every tool. We bought each plan with our own card, just like you would.
We ran each one for 30 days. On real accounts we actually run, one tool at a time.
We measured the results. New followers, how many stayed, safety, support and real cost.
We scored and ranked them. The order follows our score out of 5, nothing else.
Kicksta for most businesses. Its followers were the most engaged in our tests, which matters when you want people who might buy. If you serve one local area, Upleap's location targeting and account managers are a close second.
It can be, if your profile is ready. A service brings the right people to your page, but your bio, photos and pinned posts decide whether they visit your shop. Fix those first, then add a service.
Yes. Upleap and Flock Social let you target specific locations. With the others, you get a similar effect by targeting local businesses, community pages and hashtags that include your town's name.
The daily outreach these services do, finding local people and engaging with them, can easily eat up half an hour a day when done by hand. Setup takes between 5 and 20 minutes, then a few minutes a week to review targets.
For most small businesses, a growth service is far cheaper. The services here start at $39 to $69 a month. Agency plans can run into thousands: the Jumper Media plan we tested costs $1,500 a month and brought in followers that behaved like bots.
Yes. A business account is actually the better choice, because Instagram Insights shows you profile visits, website taps and messages, which tell you whether new followers are turning into customers.
