CASE FILE · INSTAGRAM GROWTH
Short version: SocialStud says a human manager does everything by hand, but the followers it delivered behaved like bots: our count jumped by over 5,000 while engagement and reach fell, and 549 vanished soon after we stopped. It costs from $129 a month. For managed growth with real people, see Upleap's managed growth instead.
SocialStud, which trades as Socialstud.io, is a managed Instagram growth service that has been running since 2018. Instead of software, it assigns a growth manager who carries out follows, likes and story views from your account by hand.
It positions itself against bots and automation tools, and that's the core of its marketing. Among the Instagram growth services we've tested, though, how a service works matters less than whether the followers it brings in actually stay and engage.
SocialStud sells itself as the opposite of a bot: everything is done by hand by the person assigned to your account. You get a daily sheet listing the actions taken, but you hand over the login and with it most of the control.
Pick Standard or Premium and start the 10-day free trial. Card details are taken at signup.
You share your Instagram login so your manager can work from your account.
Your manager researches competitors' followers, hashtag communities and, on Premium, local and gender-based audiences.
The manager follows, likes and views stories from your account each day, hoping those people notice and follow back.
A shared sheet logs every action, new followers and targeting changes. SocialStud says first followers usually arrive within 24 to 48 hours.
The idea behind SocialStud is appealing: a real person does your engagement by hand. In practice, our results looked nothing like the careful, human-paced growth it describes, and you pay well over the going rate for the privilege.
Growing on Instagram by hand takes time, and many people don't want software running on their account. A human manager who does the outreach for you sounds like a safe middle ground, which is what draws people to SocialStud.
The daily action log is a genuine plus. You can see exactly who was followed and liked, which helps if you want to understand where new followers come from.
But the outcome is what counts. A service that doubles your follower count while engagement and reach go down leaves your account in a worse position, because Instagram shows posts to fewer people when a smaller share of your audience reacts. Our guide to building engaged followers explains why that matters.
Paying for a premium, people-led service didn't protect us from bot-like followers elsewhere either: SimplyGram showed the same jump in numbers and slump in engagement.
SocialStud handled one of our test accounts for 30 days during September and October 2026. That account had 1,185 followers at the start, and the posting routine stayed exactly as before.
Each day we logged the follower count, engagement rate and 30-day reach shown in Instagram Insights. Once we stopped, we returned two weeks later to count the followers that had since gone.
| Metric | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Followers | 1,185 | 6,479 |
| Engagement rate | 2.9% | 0.7% |
| Accounts reached (30 days) | 4,257 | 3,911 |
| Followers lost after we stopped (14 days) | – | 549 |
The 10-day free trial and pro-rata refunds on cancellation make it easier to leave than many services in this space.
A shared sheet showing every follow, like and story view is more transparent than the vague reports some services send.
Followers rose from 1,185 to 6,479, yet our engagement rate fell from 2.9% to 0.7% and accounts reached went down. Then 549 followers disappeared within two weeks of stopping. That's the pattern of bot accounts, not genuine, interested people.
SocialStud's site says it's rated 4.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot. When we checked on October 15, 2026, its Trustpilot score was 2.3 from 112 reviews, and recent reviewers described charges after cancelling and unwanted unfollows.
Standard costs $129 a month and Premium $199. Gender and location targeting, competitor analysis and weekly strategy changes are kept for Premium.
Your manager logs in to your account every day. Older Capterra reviewers mention action blocks and security check-in prompts they had to approve without being told whether it was SocialStud or someone else.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $129/month | Dedicated growth manager, daily targeted engagement, niche research, activity reports |
| Premium | $199/month | Everything in Standard plus gender and location targeting, competitor analysis, weekly strategy changes and priority support |
Both plans start with a 10-day free trial and have no long-term contract. If you cancel, you can keep the service until the end of the billing period or stop immediately and get a pro-rata refund within 5 business days.
Paying annually cuts about 10% off, but the monthly prices above are what most people will pay to start.

SocialStud says it uses no bots and that no client has ever been banned because of it. But a person logging in to your account every day still means sharing your password, and older user reviews describe action blocks and unexpected security prompts.
Whoever does the clicking, the account is still yours. It's worth reading Instagram's usage terms before letting anyone else act on your profile, so you know what is and isn't allowed.
If you try any service that logs in for you, switch on two-factor account protection first, and change your password when you leave.

SocialStud promises human-powered growth with no bots, but our results told a different story: the followers it delivered behaved like bots, engagement fell to 0.7%, reach dropped and 549 vanished within two weeks. Add a $129 starting price and a Trustpilot rating far below what it advertises, and it's hard to recommend. If you want real people, our Kicksta review and Upleap are better places to start.
It delivered bot followers that didn't engage or stay. Upleap gives you a real manager for far less.
2/5It says it doesn't, and that a person does all the work. But the followers we got behaved like bots: over 5,000 arrived, engagement dropped from 2.9% to 0.7%, and 549 were gone two weeks after we stopped.
It's a managed Instagram growth service. A growth manager logs in to your account and manually follows, likes and views stories of people in your target audience, hoping they follow you back.
Standard is $129 a month and Premium is $199 a month on monthly billing. Both start with a 10-day free trial.
It operates as a genuine company, yet our verdict is no. During testing, engagement dropped from 2.9% to 0.7% and 549 followers left within two weeks of stopping. Its Trustpilot score was 2.3 out of 5 when we checked.
Yes. Your growth manager needs login access to follow, like and view stories from your account.
You can cancel from your dashboard or through your manager. SocialStud says you can either run to the end of the billing period or cancel at once for a pro-rata refund, paid within 5 business days.
Upleap also gives you a dedicated account manager, starts at $39 a month, and kept 96% of its new followers in our test. For the most engaged followers, choose Kicksta.
