Best for: Saving Reels, photos and Stories from a link in high quality
SnapInsta handles nearly every kind of public Instagram content from a single link: Reels, videos, photos, Stories and even profile pictures, in high quality where the original allows.
SnapInsta is the downloader most people have heard of, and it earns that by being versatile. Paste almost any public Instagram link and it returns the file, usually in the best quality the original was uploaded in. There's also an Android app if you'd rather not use the website.
Copy the link from Instagram's share menu, paste it into SnapInsta and press download. The site fetches the public post on its own servers and hands you the file. It never asks for your Instagram login, and private content stays out of reach.
Anyone who saves different kinds of content and wants one place to do it. SnapInsta has changed its web address several times, so bookmark the current one and avoid lookalike sites.

Best for: Unlimited free downloads from public accounts
iGram lets you download as many public Reels, photos, carousels and Stories as you like for free, and explains exactly which kind of link saves which kind of file.
iGram stands out for being upfront. Its page sets out what it supports, the formats you'll get and what Premium adds, which is more than most free downloaders bother to explain. Standard downloads are free with no cap on how many files you save.
Paste a link to a public Reel, post, carousel, Story or IGTV video. iGram returns MP4 files for video and JPG for photos. Premium, sold on 1, 6 or 12 month plans, adds HD and 4K plus a few extra tools, but its price isn't listed on the page.
Regular users who download a lot and want clear rules. If you need the sharpest possible video, check Premium's price in the app before you rely on it.

Best for: Quick downloads by adding a prefix to an Instagram link
FastDl offers several quality options for each file and a handy shortcut: put its address in front of any Instagram link and you land straight on the download page.
FastDl is a straightforward downloader that does one job quickly. What makes it different is the shortcut: instead of copying and pasting, you add its address before an Instagram link in your browser bar and press Enter.
Copy the post link from Instagram, paste it into FastDl, and choose from the quality options it returns. Or use the prefix trick to skip the paste step. It works the same on phones, tablets and computers.
People who download from a computer and like keyboard shortcuts. It sticks to public posts and has few extras beyond downloading.

Best for: People who download from Instagram and other video sites
SaveFrom has been around for years as a general video saver. It handles Instagram photos and videos without a watermark, and its browser extension adds one-click downloading.
SaveFrom isn't built only for Instagram, which is exactly why some people prefer it: one tool covers many video sites. Its Instagram page saves photos and videos at their original resolution, free and without a watermark.
Paste a public Instagram link into the site and download the file. If you save videos often, the browser extension adds a download button so you don't need to visit the site each time. The website itself can't save private accounts.
People who also download from other platforms and want a single tool. The pages carry more ads than dedicated Instagram downloaders.

Best for: Saving Reels with music and no watermark
SnapSave has dedicated pages for Reels, Stories and photos, and saves Reels with their music and without a watermark.
SnapSave started as a Facebook video downloader and added Instagram later. Its Instagram pages work well, especially for Reels, which keep their soundtrack and come through without any branding added.
Open SnapSave's Reels page, paste a public Reel link and download the MP4. Separate pages handle Stories, photos and IGTV. There's no login, and the site says it doesn't store your data.
Saving Reels for offline viewing. If Instagram is your main need, the tools higher on this list are more focused.

An Instagram downloader is a website or app that saves a public post, Reel or Story to your device. You copy the link from Instagram, paste it in, and the tool fetches the file for you.
People use them to keep a copy of their own content, save a tutorial to watch offline, or collect examples of Reels that worked well. If you're studying what performs in your niche, pair a downloader with our guide to grow your following so the research turns into posts.
Sometimes. Instagram lets creators decide whether others can download their Reels, and where that's switched on, you can save a public Reel from the share menu in the app. Creators can turn it off for their whole account or a single Reel.
Instagram has a setting that controls who can download your reels. It works in the phone and tablet apps, not on computers.

For your own posts, you can also download a copy of your account data from Instagram's settings. A downloader fills the gaps: Stories, photos and Reels where in-app downloads aren't available.
Being able to download something doesn't mean you can reuse it. Photos and videos belong to the people who made them. Saving a Reel to watch later is one thing; reposting it, especially to promote a business, is another. If what you really want is more reach, the best growth services bring real people to your own posts instead.

If you want to share someone's post, ask them first and credit them clearly, or share it inside Instagram so it stays linked to their account.

All five are free and need no login. Once you've saved a clip you plan to re-edit for your own account, our pick of Reels editing apps shows where to trim and caption it.
If you'd rather just watch public Stories without saving them, our round-up of anonymous story viewers compares tools built for that.
The most common reason to download from Instagram is to keep a copy of your own work. If a Reel did well, you may want to reuse it on another platform, cut a shorter version or keep it as a backup in case something happens to your account.
For your own posts, start inside Instagram. You can request a full copy of your account data from the settings, which includes your photos and videos. It takes a little while to arrive, but it's the most complete backup you can get, and it doesn't involve any outside website.
A downloader is quicker for a single post or a Story you forgot to save. Keep your originals organised by month or topic, and note which ones performed best. Over time that folder becomes a library of proven ideas you can remix rather than starting from scratch every week.
Some tools handle only Reels and videos, others also save photos, carousels, Stories and profile pictures. Pick one that covers what you download most.
Free tools often cap quality. If you need HD or 4K, check whether that's free or part of a paid tier before you rely on it.
A downloader only needs the post link. A site that asks for your Instagram password is a risk to your account.
Free downloaders run on ads, and some ads look like download buttons. The real button sits right under the box where you paste the link.
Popular downloaders are copied and some change domains. Bookmark the genuine site so you don't end up on a lookalike.
We started wide. We listed the tools people use most for this job, then dropped any that have shut down or no longer do what they claim.
We checked each tool's own site. Features, limits and monthly prices come straight from the company, on the date shown at the top.
We read what users say. App store and review-site feedback helped us spot problems the sales pages leave out.
We scored and ranked them. Each score reflects how well the tool does the job, how safe it is for your account, and what it costs.
Saving public content for your own use is generally treated differently from reusing it. Reposting or selling someone else's photos or videos without permission can break copyright law and Instagram's rules.
No. These tools only work with public posts. Some browser extensions can save private content you already have access to, but the websites can't.
SaveFrom and SnapSave say plainly that they add no watermark, and the others return the file as it was uploaded. Some video editors add a watermark later if you use a free plan.
No. You only paste a link. Never give a downloader your Instagram password.
Yes. SnapInsta, iGram, SaveFrom and SnapSave can save public Stories while they're live, and Highlights stay available after 24 hours.
The post may be private, deleted, or blocked from downloads by its creator. Downloaders also break for a while when Instagram changes its pages, so try another tool on the list.
