Best for: Quickly watching public Stories, Reels and Highlights without logging in
StoriesIG covers the three things people usually want from a viewer: current Stories, saved Highlights and Reels. Type a public username and they load in seconds, with no account and no sign-up.
StoriesIG is the viewer we'd point most people to first. It sticks to the job: you search a username, and it pulls up whatever that public account has shared in the last 24 hours, plus its Highlights and Reels. You never appear in the owner's list of viewers.
The site fetches public content on its own servers and shows it to you, so Instagram only ever sees the site's request, not your account. That is why it works without a login, and also why it can't open private profiles. Anything you watch can be saved at full resolution.
Anyone who wants a quick, private look at a public account, such as checking a competitor's latest Story or catching up on an account you don't follow. It's less useful if you mainly want to browse someone's older posts.

Best for: Browsing a public profile's posts and Stories like a feed
Imginn turns a public profile into a simple page of posts, Reels and Stories you can scroll through, and every item can be saved in its original quality.
Where most viewers focus on Stories, Imginn feels more like browsing the profile itself. Posts, Reels and the current Stories sit together on one page, which makes it easy to get a feel for an account rather than just its last day of updates.
Search by username and Imginn loads the public profile. Click any post or Story to view it full-size, then use the download option to keep a copy. It states plainly that private content can't be viewed.
Researching a brand or creator in more depth, for example to see what they post over a few weeks. On very large accounts pages can take a while to load.

Best for: Looking up public profiles, Stories and follower counts in one place
Dumpor bundles a Story viewer with six other free tools for public accounts, from Reels to follower counts, and lets you save a history of the profiles you look up.
Dumpor goes broader than the others. Alongside anonymous Story viewing, it shows profile details, Reels and follower information for public accounts. The old GreatFon address now leads here too, so if you used GreatFon before, this is where it went.
Enter a username and choose what you want to see. Dumpor works through its own proxy, so the account owner can't see you, and nothing needs installing. You can keep a list of recently viewed profiles if you check the same accounts often.
People who keep an eye on several public accounts and want more than Stories in one place. The busy layout takes a moment to get used to.

Best for: Watching public Stories without showing up in the viewer list
IgAnony, now running as AnonyIG, lets you watch and save public Stories with no daily limits and no sign-up, on phone or computer.
IgAnony was one of the best-known names in this space, and its older domains no longer load. The service lives on at AnonyIG, which still carries the IgAnony name. It does the core job well: public Stories, Highlights and profiles, viewed without leaving a trace.
Paste a username or profile link and the site shows that account's current Stories and Highlights. You can download what you see. Requests run over HTTPS, and you never need an Instagram account of your own.
Regular viewers who don't want to hit a daily cap. Because the brand has moved domains before, bookmark the current address and be wary of copies with similar names.

Best for: Downloading Stories and Reels from a public profile one file at a time
InstaNavigation splits a public profile into four tabs (Stories, Highlights, posts and Reels) and puts a download button on every single file.
InstaNavigation is the most download-focused tool on the list. Each part of a profile opens as its own tab, and every photo or video in it can be saved with one click, Stories included.
Type a username or paste a profile link. The public profile opens in tabs, and each item has its own download button: videos save as MP4 files and photos as JPGs. Nothing is installed and you never log in.
People who want to keep copies of public Stories before they disappear. Several unrelated sites use the InstaNavigation name, so stick to the address we list.

When you watch a Story in the Instagram app, your name shows up in the owner's list of viewers. An anonymous Story viewer is a website that fetches public Stories for you, so the owner sees the website's request rather than your account.
People use them for ordinary reasons: checking what a competitor posted today, keeping up with a public figure without following them, or looking at an account before deciding whether to follow it. If you're doing that kind of research for your own brand, our list of Instagram growth tools covers the services that help you build an audience rather than watch one.
Every tool on this list sees exactly what a logged-out visitor sees. Public accounts share their Stories with anyone, so a viewer can show them. Private accounts share only with approved followers, and no outside website can get around that.
If a site claims it can show private Stories, it is not telling the truth. These pages usually exist to collect your details, push surveys or get you to install something.
Stories also vanish after 24 hours unless the owner adds them to Highlights. A viewer can only show what is live at the moment you search, plus any saved Highlights.
Watching public content isn't the same as spying, but it is worth using these tools thoughtfully. Viewing a public business account is very different from repeatedly checking on someone who has blocked you or asked to be left alone.
The Community Standards that govern Instagram cover privacy violations as well as bullying and harassment, and using a viewer to track or pester someone can break them.

A Story you save should stay private to you. Reposting someone else's content without permission can upset them and may break copyright rules. Our guide to Instagram downloader picks covers what you can and can't do with saved files.

All five are free, need no login and work only with public accounts. The differences are in layout and extras, so the best pick depends on whether you want a quick look, a deeper browse or files to keep. If you watch competitors to learn what works, our guide to growing real followers turns that research into a plan.
If you also want to know who stopped following your own account, that is a different job. For that, see our list of follower tracker apps, which ranks the apps made for the job.
Sometimes the simplest option is to follow the account. If it's a brand or creator in your niche, following them openly and engaging with their posts can lead to collaborations, and it costs you nothing in privacy.
If you only want to keep up with a few public accounts, you can also mute them after following, so their posts don't crowd your feed while you still see their Stories. And for competitor research, looking at their public posts and Reels over several weeks tells you far more than a single day of Stories.
Whatever you choose, protect your own account first. Viewer sites never need your login, so anyone asking for it is not a real viewer. Switch on Instagram's two-factor security so a leaked password alone can't get someone into your profile.
A genuine Story viewer only needs a username. If a site asks you to log in with Instagram, close it: it is after your account, not helping you watch.
No tool can open a private account's Stories. Sites that promise private access are scams, and some of them push fake surveys or downloads.
Popular viewers get copied, and some change domains. Bookmark the real site so you don't land on a lookalike full of ads or malware.
If you only want to watch, any viewer here will do. If you want to keep copies, pick one with a clear download button on every file.
These sites are free because they show ads. A reasonable number is normal, but pop-ups that try to install things are a warning sign.
We started wide. We listed the tools people use most for this job, then dropped any that have shut down or no longer do what they claim.
We checked each tool's own site. Features, limits and monthly prices come straight from the company, on the date shown at the top.
We read what users say. App store and review-site feedback helped us spot problems the sales pages leave out.
We scored and ranked them. Each score reflects how well the tool does the job, how safe it is for your account, and what it costs.
No. The viewer loads the Story itself, so your account never appears in the owner's list of viewers. The owner may see the visit as part of general traffic, but not who you are.
No. None of these tools, or any other, can show Stories from a private account. Sites that claim they can are scams.
Viewing content that someone has shared publicly is generally fine. What matters is how you use it: harassing someone or reposting their content without permission can break platform rules and the law.
No. All five work without logging in, and you should never give one your Instagram password.
Viewers often move to new addresses or shut down when Instagram changes how its pages load. IgAnony, for example, now runs as AnonyIG, and GreatFon's address now leads to Dumpor.
Yes, all five let you save Stories from public accounts. Keep copies for personal use and ask the owner before sharing them anywhere.
