TOP LIST · INSTAGRAM GROWTH
Instagram automation tools take the repetitive outreach off your hands. We ran 11 of them on real accounts for 30 days and checked what each actually does for you, how much control you keep, and whether it stays within safe limits. These five automate the right things at a human pace, and every one of them lifted our engagement. Kicksta does it best.

Best for: Creators and small brands who want real growth
Kicksta automates only one thing, likes, and that restraint paid off. Over the month, engagement on our posts went from 4.1% to 5.5%, the strongest lift of any automation tool we ran, and only 6 of its 248 new followers unfollowed once we stopped.
Kicksta's automation is deliberately narrow. It doesn't post, comment or mass-follow from your account. It finds real people who already engage with accounts like yours and likes a few of their posts, spread across the day, so they notice you. Everything else stays in your hands. Our full Kicksta review covers its plans and safety in detail.
You give it up to 10 source accounts or hashtags on Growth, or 30 on Advanced. Kicksta screens out fake and inactive profiles among their followers, then likes posts from the real ones at a steady, human pace. The Advanced plan adds automatic welcome messages, a gender filter and a Close Friends adder.
Creators and small brands who want the repetitive outreach done for them but don't want a tool following and unfollowing hundreds of accounts in their name.
Price from $69/month
Best for: First-timers and local businesses
Upleap pairs follow automation with an account manager who adjusts your targeting. It brought in 448 followers in 30 days, while the number of accounts we reached went from 13,346 to 26,470.
On its Standard and Pro plans, Upleap automates follows and later unfollows aimed at the audience you describe. What sets it apart is the human layer on top: an account manager reviews how your targets perform and suggests changes, so the automation never runs completely unattended. Read our Upleap review for the plan-by-plan detail.
You map your audience with hashtags, lookalike accounts and locations. Your account then goes through a warm-up of about three days before the automated follows start. Pro adds greeting DMs, a gender filter, automatic Close Friends lists and likes for anyone who follows you back.
Business owners who like the idea of automation but want someone to sanity-check it, especially if they want followers from a particular place.

Best for: Creators and small businesses on a budget
Flock Social automates follows, likes and unfollows from its $69 plan, with welcome DMs on the top tier. It added 523 followers in 30 days, and two weeks after we stopped, 99% of them were still following.
Flock Social runs the full follow-like-unfollow cycle for you. Matching people get a follow, the ones who follow back get likes on their posts, and anyone who stays silent is eventually dropped. That keeps your following ratio tidy without you lifting a finger. Our Flock Social review explains each plan tier.
You add influencers, competitors, hashtags and locations, and you can change them at any time. A warm-up of up to three days eases your account into activity. The $119 Adventurer plan adds automatic welcome messages, a Close Friends adder, a gender filter and auto-likes after a follow.
Hands-on creators who want a lot of automation at a low price and are happy to set and adjust their own targets.

Best for: Busy people who want growth on autopilot
Kenji hands even the targeting to its AI, which learns from the accounts you give it as examples. On our smallest test account it added 220 followers in 30 days, and engagement rose from 4.2% to 5.3%.
Kenji is the most automated tool on this list. You hand it a few hashtags plus a couple of accounts you'd like to look like, and its AI decides who to engage with from there, improving its choices the longer it runs. Follow and unfollow is its core method and can't be switched off. See our Kenji review for the full breakdown.
After a two-to-four-day warm-up, Kenji follows and unfollows in batches and steers clear of any account matching one of its 10,000-plus blocked keywords. Anyone who engages with you goes on a whitelist so they're never unfollowed. The top plan adds welcome messages and gender targeting.
Busy people who want to set things up once and let the software decide, rather than manage target lists every week.

Best for: Brands and creators who want managed growth
Nitreo automates three kinds of action, follows, likes and story views, and quietly mutes everyone it follows, which keeps your feed free of strangers. It brought in 679 followers over the month, more than any other tool here, with engagement up from 2.6% to 4.1%.
Nitreo spreads its automation across three kinds of action instead of leaning on one. Story views are a quiet but effective addition: people see your name in their viewer list without you following them first. A success team helps when you run out of target ideas. The details are in our Nitreo review.
You describe your account, add niche hashtags and similar accounts, and narrow things down with filters. Nitreo then lines up a mix of follows, likes and story views for genuine, active accounts in that audience. The Speed plan adds welcome DMs, Close Friends adding, gender targeting and faster support.
Accounts that want the biggest real follower gain from automation and don't mind working with a support team to refine targets.

We also looked at these. Here is why they are not on the list.
For $19 a month, Suparise runs a desktop bot on your own computer that follows, likes and unfollows for you.
Why it didn't make the list
It brought in bot followers. Our account gained more than 13,000 in a month, but engagement slid from 2.7% to 0.7% and 376 followers disappeared within two weeks of stopping. Its own site describes it as a bot that Instagram can't detect, which is exactly the kind of automation we'd avoid.
Who might still like it: We wouldn't recommend it for any account you care about.

Read our Suparise reviewRobolike is an auto-liker that runs on your computer and likes posts without any rate limiting.
Why it didn't make the list
Followers multiplied more than five times over, yet engagement sank from 3.1% to 0.2%: the signature of bot followers. Unlimited likes with no pacing is the opposite of the human-paced automation that kept our other accounts safe.
Who might still like it: Nobody. A tool that likes at a human pace, like Kicksta, does the same job without the risk.

Read our Robolike reviewInstagram automation takes repetitive actions off your hands. Instead of spending an hour a day finding people in your niche and liking their posts, a tool does that work from your account while you get on with creating content.
The five tools here automate discovery, not your voice. They engage with people who are likely to care about your posts, and each person chooses for themselves whether your profile is worth a follow. None of them write captions, post for you or leave comments in your name.
That distinction matters. Tools that automate everything at high volume behave like bots, and our Instagram bots ranking explains where the line sits between helpful automation and the kind that gets accounts restricted.
Not every Instagram task benefits from a robot. This is how we'd split them, based on what we saw across 30 days of testing.
| Task | Automate it? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Finding people in your niche | Yes | Slow by hand, and tools filter out fake accounts |
| Liking posts at a human pace | Yes | Low risk and gets you noticed |
| Following, then unfollowing | With care | Works, but keep the pace modest |
| Welcome message to new followers | Yes, if it sounds like you | A friendly first contact |
| Comments on other posts | No | Generic comments look spammy |
| Posting other people's clips | No | Unoriginal content gets recommended less |
Instagram's usage terms don't allow automated activity, so the safest approach is to automate only what a careful person would do by hand, and at a similar speed.
The five tools share the same goal but hand over different amounts of control. Pick the style that matches how involved you want to be.
You choose every target. Kicksta and Flock Social act only on the accounts and hashtags you pick, so the results reflect your choices.
You choose, a person checks. Upleap and Nitreo add an account manager or success team who reviews your targets and suggests better ones.
The AI chooses. Kenji learns from a few examples and picks targets itself, improving over time with almost no input from you.
If you're not sure which suits you, start with a tool where you pick the targets. You'll learn what works for your niche, and that knowledge carries over to any tool you use later. Every service we've scored is on our Instagram growth hub.
Each tool ran on a real account for 30 days while we posted exactly as usual, which made automation the only variable.
| Tool | Engagement rate | Accounts reached | Kept after 14 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kicksta | 4.1% → 5.5% | 7,613 → 12,611 | 98% |
| Upleap | 3.0% → 4.3% | 13,346 → 26,470 | 96% |
| Flock Social | 2.8% → 3.9% | 9,427 → 18,200 | 99% |
| Kenji | 4.2% → 5.3% | 2,783 → 4,694 | 96% |
| Nitreo | 2.6% → 4.1% | 10,826 → 21,070 | 97% |
Engagement went up with every tool on this list. Compare that with the bulk bots we tested, where follower counts jumped by thousands while engagement collapsed below 1%. Automation that brings in real people makes your posts perform better, not worse.
Likes only is the gentlest option. Follow-and-unfollow brings more followers but needs a modest pace. Story views add reach without following anyone.
Decide whether you want to choose targets yourself, have a person help, or let an AI decide. All three work; they suit different amounts of free time.
Welcome DMs, Close Friends adders and gender filters only come on the higher plans. Pay for them only if you'll use them.
A gradual warm-up and steady daily limits matter more than any feature. Avoid tools that promise thousands of actions a day.
Kenji offers 3 days and the others 7. Use the trial to check the dashboard and the quality of the first followers, not the total count.
Secure your login first. Turn on two-factor login protection before you connect any tool.
Let the warm-up run. Most tools ease your account in over a few days. Don't skip it or push the activity level up early.
Start with tight targets. Five to ten accounts close to yours in size and topic beat a long list of famous names.
Review weekly. Drop the targets that bring no followers and add new ones.
Stop if Instagram warns you. An action block means slow down. Pause the tool for a day or two before resuming at a lower pace.
Automation works best on top of good habits. Our organic growth guide covers the profile, posting and Reels routine that makes the people a tool sends your way decide to stay.
We paid for every tool. We bought each plan with our own card, just like you would.
We ran each one for 30 days. On real accounts we actually run, one tool at a time.
We measured the results. New followers, how many stayed, safety, support and real cost.
We scored and ranked them. The order follows our score out of 5, nothing else.
Kicksta. It automates the outreach that takes the most time while leaving your posting, comments and DMs to you, and nobody's followers engaged more in our tests. Our score for it: 5/5 out of 5.
Instagram's terms don't allow automated activity, so no automation tool is completely risk-free. Tools that work at a human pace with real accounts carry far less risk than bulk bots, and none of the five on this list got our test accounts flagged.
Comments, replies to your community and the content you post. Generic automated comments look spammy, and reposting other people's clips can stop Instagram recommending your account. Keep anything people read word for word personal.
All five tools on this list log in to your account so they can act on your behalf. Turn on two-factor authentication before connecting one, and make sure you can still reach the email address linked to your account.
Most tools need a warm-up of a few days, and the first week is usually quiet. In our tests, follower growth picked up from the second week and was strongest during the last two weeks of the month.
Yes. Kicksta, Upleap, Flock Social, Kenji and Nitreo can all send an automatic welcome message to new followers on their top plans. For full conversation flows, a dedicated DM tool is a better fit.
